WHY A MUSTER DAY?

Muster Day ensures that players have the best experience possible. Advance registration gives SBA accurate numbers to organise coaches and book court space. It also reduces the number of forfeits during the season and reduces administration involved in chasing players who don’t let us know they’re not returning.

HOW WILL TEAMS BE SELECTED?

Registered players participate in short games and drills on the day so that coaches can create relatively even teams. We will do our best to consider friendship groups while ensuring an even spread of skill across the teams.

You will receive an email a week with your team name and can follow it on Game Day to access the draw.

WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND MY MUSTER DAY?

If you can’t attend the Muster Day for your age group, go ahead and register for the Winter Season.

Follow up your registration by emailing enquiries@shoalhavenbasketball.com.au to request an exemption. New players can include a description of their basketball experience and the name of ONE player you would like to be placed in a team with.

WHAT ABOUT THE U18 BOYS?

Players in this age group nominate their own teams in the same way as the Seniors.

SBA offers an Under 19 Boys competition enabling players to stay with their friends in their school year group. Players who turn 18 in 2024 will move up to the Senior competition for the 2024/2025 Summer Season.

Email enquiries@shoalhavenbasketball.com.au asap to enter an U19 Boys team. A form will be sent for you to nominate the team name, team delegate, and two duty referees.

Many top age U19 players also play in the Senior competition. If you are U18 and would like to play seniors, please view the policy relating to junior players in the senior comp and complete the Junior Player Movement Request form.

UNIFORM

  • Players require a reversible Shoalhaven Basketball singlet to play (available online when registering).
  • Shorts must be black with no pockets or large logos.
  • Representative shorts are not to be worn for domestic comp.
  • Compression garments and sleeves must be black.
  • Shorts do not include leggings, stockings or tights of any length. Leggings will be permitted with shorts over the top in June, July or August only.
  • T-Shirts, black or the same predominant colour as the playing singlet, are permitted to be worn under the playing singlet.
  • Points will be deducted for during games for players not in uniform.

Uniform guidelines are outlined in the Uniform Policy and Domestic Competition Rules.

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Parent volunteers are a critical part of basketball. You’ll notice parents and caregivers coaching, on the score table, refereeing, assisting committees, and many other volunteer roles. Get involved!

  • Every team will require a coach for the Winter Season. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to coach or play – it can be as simple as ensuring that all players get fair court time and acting as your team’s central point of contact. Coach development opportunities are available throughout the year.
  • Every game requires two people on the bench to keep score on the iPad and scoreboard, preferably one from each team. If no parent/carers volunteer for the score bench, scores will be recorded on the iPad but not the score board.
  • Games can’t go ahead without referees. Courses are run regularly for new referees and new faces are always welcome. You will be supported on court by our referee supervisor and mentors while earning your stripes. Without referees, there is no game!

Shoalhaven Basketball provides training in all of these areas and other parents are always willing to share their knowledge. We’ll be calling for coaches and other volunteers at each Muster session.
