Coaching is a rewarding commitment. Whether you’re jumping in to support your child’s weekly game or have a lifelong love of basketball to share, we’d love to have you on the team.
Our coaches are valued volunteers who play a pivotal role in making SBA a safe and welcoming environment. We are always looking for coaches for our weekly domestic competition – stop in at the office and put up your hand!
All domestic SBA coaches are encouraged to gain accreditation as a ‘Club Coach’. Accreditation for representative coaches is mandatory.
Everyone at SBA plays a role in member safety.
All SBA coaches are required to provide a valid WWCC and complete the Child Protection Course.
A Member Protection Officer is in place to support our members.

Domestic competition runs all year round in the state-of-the-art Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre.
Coaches for weekly domestic games are volunteers who have offered to guide a team. Coaching a domestic team can be as simple as managing subs and giving encouragement. Let us know at the office if you’re interested in getting involved.
All coaches start somewhere. At junior domestic competition, a coach ensures that all players get equal court time and encourages team spirit. Your understanding of the game will grow and coach education is available.
Yes. Our Director of Coaching is often around the stadium during the week and other coaches are available to assist.
All coaches are required to provide the details of their valid WWCC. These are free for volunteers.
An EOI for interested representative coaches is shared in the second half of the year. Representative coaches complete a written application and interview with the Director of Coaching before being appointed by the SBA Board. Past experience is required for Head Coach positions.
Take opportunities to build your coaching experience including gaining coach certification, signing up for BNSW events, coaching a domestic team, applying for the role of Assistant Coach, and engaging with coaching resources.
