2026 AGM Notice
PLANS FOR THE BOMADERRY BASKETBALL STADIUM
WE NEED YOUR HELP
VOTE FOR CONSTRUCTING 2 NEW INDOOR COURTS
Dear SBA Members,
Shoalhaven City Council (SCC) has released its draft Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan 2056 (CISP) for public exhibition. It sets out the planning and strategic management of SCC infrastructure for the next 30 years. The CISP contains recommendations in relation to the Bomaderry Basketball Stadium, known to many as The Tigers Den.
We have an opportunity until 20 May 2026 to complete the CISP survey and provide feedback on the recommendations. The feedback will be considered and will inform the final CISP, which will be considered by Councillors later this year.
The draft CISP recommendations are:
1. Priority 1 (0 to 5 years) – Demolish existing Bomaderry Basketball Stadium.
2. Priority 1 (0 to 5 years) – Undertake feasibility studies for two re-development options
– Demolishing the existing facility and developing 4 outdoor courts.
– Demolishing the existing facility and constructing a new 2 court indoor basketball stadium.
3. Mid-term (5 to 10 years) – deliver the agreed design for Bomaderry Basketball Stadium – 2 court indoor centre or 4 court outdoor facility.
Demolishing the Tigers Den is a change from the refurbishment option that SBA has pursued with SCC since 2019 when SISC opened and the Tigers Den was closed. Refurbishment was put on hold by SCC when it paused all developments due to financial constraints several years ago.
SCC has now determined that it is not economically or structurally feasible to refurbish the Tigers Den and that is the reason for the recommendation to demolish the building. It should also be noted that the building being demolished may not coincide with the immediate building of the new facility and will depend on when funds are available. At this stage, it could be a 10 plus year process.
Action required
It is really important that the collective voice of SBA is heard by the SCC and we are asking members to take 5 minutes to complete the survey at this link before 20 May 2026: CISP-Survey
There is an interactive mapping tool that enables you to navigate directly to the stadium to complete the survey. There is a video on the Get Involved page that shows how to use the mapping tool.
SCC are seeking feedback on whether the preference is for a 2 court indoor stadium or 4 outdoor courts with an all-weather cover. SBA’s preferred option is an indoor 2 court stadium and we ask that you complete the survey and indicate your strong support for a 2 court indoor facility only.
Statistics provided by BNSW indicate there are already not enough courts to meet the demand for basketball. As the sport we all love continues to grow, facilities pressure will only increase. SBA currently has to compete for court space with a range of sports and activities, and we can not secure all the courts that we need at SISC. To ensure the long term viability of our association and that we are in a position to grow, we need a 2 court indoor facility to be built.
If you have already completed the survey, you can complete another one. In the extra comments section we ask that you write that you support a new 2 court indoor stadium being built. The more surveys that are completed, the more data SCC has that might influence them to choose the 2 court indoor facility option over the outdoor court option. SCC staff have made it clear to SBA that they will listen to public feedback and we need to ensure this happens.
If you have any questions, or need guidance to complete the survey please contact the SBA office via email or phone or drop by the SBA office Tuesday to Thursday afternoons.
